Curriculum

Christian Education
A Christian education is an atmosphere as well as specifics; preferred books, audio-visuals, celebrations interpreted from a Christian perspective, prayers, songs, music of all kinds, physical activities, and storytelling. A child learns when he/she is guided by loving adults who share their faith in a way meaningful to children.
We share our faith with children:

1.
When we help them to see themselves as persons of worth

2.
When we provide opportunities for children to make choices.

3.
As we help them become better stewards of God’s creation

4.
When we help them practice the rule of love in all relationships

5.
As we share our attitude about others

6.
When we live life out with them

7.
As we offer hope when things go wrong

8.
When we are willing to live with them, sharing the richness of every day living, the hurts, joys, needs and fulfillment in open and honest ways

9.
As we use the language of faith in interpreting experiences

To these ends, at Mt. Zion Preschool/MMO, we use appropriate Christian education materials as an ongoing part of our daily curriculum.

Academics - TWO YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL
Our two-year-old program is offered for children who will be two by September 1. We offer your child a variety of new experiences geared for his/her stage of development. Our major goals are developing social skills, gross motor development, and language arts. Our curriculum includes many forms of art, media, music, creative movement, finger plays, cooking, story time, Bible devotion, and inside and outside play experiences. Exposure to basic shapes, colors, and minimal use of scissors are included. We feel the above curriculum will encourage learning as an enjoyable life-long process that begins in play and flourishes in wonderment and active, meaningful, firsthand experiences for your child.

Academics - THREE YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL
Mt. Zion’s three-year-old program is offered for children who will be three by September 1. We offer a wide variety of experiences directed towards the needs of a 3-year-old child. Social skills, language development, sensory perceptual, gross motor development, and a beginning knowledge are the major goals of this program.

Our curriculum reinforces basic shapes and colors, while introducing numbers and letters. Our curriculum also includes many creative activities using all forms of art, media, music, games, finger plays, literature, and sensory experiences. All activities are geared to the level of needs of a three-year old child.

Academics - FOUR YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL
Our four-year-old program is offered to children who will be four by September 1. This program is geared to meet the needs of a four-year-old child as we prepare him/her for Kindergarten experiences. All shapes and colors are reinforced, while building on number and letter recognition, positional words, rhyming words, patterns and reading some sight words. These needs determine the equipment used and the curriculum taught. We use as many creative activities as possible. We use scissors, crayons, paste, easel paint, finger-paint, housekeeping play, block play, construction sets, dramatic play, collage, clay, various foods, science projects, musical activities, language and social development, reading good literature and listening to good music to enhance our preschool days. Each day, a Bible story is read. At this age, more expansion is made with the details of the story

Academics - Extra Curricular - Chapel & Music
  - Chapel meets twice a month, the 3s and 4s will gather in their separate age groups for chapel in the sanctuary. Our Chapel Teacher will share Bible stories and Christian truths with the children. This will be done in an age appropriate manner with visual aids to help them understand.

- The Children meet twice a month to have music. They will enjoy lots of movement, music, and fun!
